On March 4, we celebrate World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development. At CT, we are convinced that engineering is the best tool we have to improve the world. Every project we work on is an opportunity to make our industry cleaner and our world more sustainable.
At CT, we are committed to environmental protection and operate under a sustainability policy embedded across all our activities. This effort has been recognized by CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) with an A rating—an excellence level achieved by only 4% of companies worldwide.
We have clear and measurable goals: we aim to achieve Net Zero by 2050, reduce our emissions by 42% by 2030, and ensure that 100% of our energy comes from renewable sources by 2040.
But our commitment goes beyond reducing our own footprint. A large part of our daily work involves engineering and R&D projects that directly drive sustainability. Here are some examples of projects we have developed or are currently involved in:
- H2TECH4SHIP: We have led the conceptual design of the first tugboat powered entirely by compressed hydrogen. This pioneering solution for the maritime sector completely eliminates the use of fossil fuels, emitting only water vapor during operation.
- Ecomovil’23: Through the use of digital twins and advanced data analytics, we optimize the architecture of urban electric vehicles. This allows us to improve preventive maintenance, extend component lifespan, and maximize energy efficiency.
- WASP (Wind-Assisted Ship Propulsion): We implement intelligent wind-assisted propulsion systems on merchant vessels. By harnessing this clean energy source, we significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions in international maritime transport.
- CLASCO: By applying additive manufacturing techniques and topology optimization, we have reduced the weight of critical aerospace components by up to 53%. This weight reduction directly translates into lower fuel consumption per flight hour.
- CLAH2RENH3CE: We are leading the development of mixed-fuel storage systems (hydrogen and ammonia) for aircraft. This is a key project in achieving carbon-free commercial aviation in the medium term.
- Protect-Air: We are researching the application of nanotechnology to develop next-generation materials. The goal is to create lighter, stronger, and more efficient aircraft structures.
- REPERA: We have developed an autonomous system that combines physical barriers and AI-managed bubble curtains to intercept plastics in rivers before they reach the ocean.
- ALARAD: We are driving digital transformation in the agricultural sector through IoT sensors and Artificial Intelligence. This precision agriculture system optimizes water use and reduces chemical inputs, minimizing the environmental impact of crops.
- INSIDeR: We have designed and developed a patented solution for Active Debris Removal that combines a net and an inflatable structure, enabling the safe and efficient removal of orbital debris.
Our contribution to sustainability goes beyond words—it is reflected in the projects we develop and the challenges we solve every day. At CT, we see our profession as a real tool for transformation, firmly believing that engineering is the driver of change the world needs. That is why our commitment is clear and direct: to work today on the engineering that tomorrow requires.
