Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s leading cloud services platform. In Spain, AWS has deployed several data centers and infrastructure sites designed to deliver scalable computing services and low-latency performance for enterprise customers. In the region of Aragón, AWS operates key network support platforms and service infrastructure sites in Villanueva de Gállego, Huesca, and El Burgo de Ebro, contributing to the connectivity and processing capacity of the AWS ecosystem across Europe.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has established one of its primary European data center infrastructure hubs in Aragón, integrating multiple sites across the provinces of Zaragoza and Huesca. These facilities are part of the AWS Europe (Spain) Region and are designed according to AWS’s standard architecture of Regions and Availability Zones, featuring physically separated buildings, redundant power infrastructure, and high-capacity network connectivity. The main sites are located in Villanueva de Gállego, Huesca (Plhus/Walqa area), and El Burgo de Ebro, operating in a coordinated manner as a single cloud infrastructure ecosystem.
The AWS site in Villanueva de Gállego (Zaragoza) represents the largest deployment within the region, with a planned electrical capacity of approximately 529 MW, supporting multiple data center buildings and offering significant potential for future expansion.
The AWS facility in Huesca, located near the Plhus and Walqa technology parks, has an estimated electrical capacity of approximately 340 MW, making it one of the highest-capacity AWS hubs in northern Spain within the company’s European network.
Meanwhile, the AWS site in El Burgo de Ebro (Zaragoza) is expected to provide approximately 266 MW of electrical capacity, complementing the capabilities of the other facilities while enhancing the overall redundancy and resilience of the AWS Region in Aragón.
Taken together, AWS’s infrastructure deployed across Aragón is estimated to exceed 1,100 MW of total electrical capacity, underscoring the strategic importance of this region within Amazon Web Services’ global European data center ecosystem.
As part of the deployment and expansion of Amazon Web Services’ infrastructure in Aragón, CT Engineering Group has played a key role in the technical verification, testing, and commissioning of the electrical systems across the different sites.
CT’s team has been actively involved in performing low- and medium-voltage protection testing, ensuring the proper coordination and selectivity of protection systems within these highly critical facilities.
In addition, our engineers have carried out functional testing of power control systems, ensuring reliable load management, redundancy, and the demanding operational scenarios typical of large-scale data centers.
CT’s contribution has also included direct support throughout the commissioning phase, working closely with the client and other project stakeholders to validate the successful integration of the electrical, control, and backup power systems. This technical involvement has ensured that the facilities meet AWS’s stringent standards for availability, safety, and reliability, further strengthening CT Engineering Group’s position as a trusted technology partner for critical infrastructure and large-scale international data center projects.
