CT Engineering Group strengthens Its position as a leading provider of electrical protection training at the Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant

The Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant, owned by Iberdrola, continues to advance its technological modernization strategy and workforce development by introducing new testing tools for electrical protection systems.

The facility operates a wide range of electromechanical, digital, and hybrid protection relays. Traditionally, Megger secondary injection test sets have been used to verify and maintain its protection systems.

As part of its technology renewal program, however, the plant has introduced a state-of-the-art OMICRON secondary injection test set. OMICRON is internationally recognized as one of the leading manufacturers of testing equipment for electrical protection systems.

The implementation of this new technology made it essential to strengthen the specialized training of the electrical personnel responsible for the maintenance, testing, and commissioning of protection systems. To support this initiative, the Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant launched several tenders for the delivery of specialized training programs focused on the use and application of OMICRON testing equipment.

Thanks to its extensive expertise in protection systems, electrical testing, and the advanced use of OMICRON solutions, CT Engineering Group has been awarded several of the tenders issued by the Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant since 2023. This continued collaboration reflects the nuclear facility’s confidence in the company’s technical expertise and training capabilities.

The training programs delivered by CT cover both theoretical and practical aspects of protection relay testing, automated test configuration, results analysis, and industry best practices for maintaining electrical protection systems in highly demanding operational environments.

Through these initiatives, the Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant enhances the technical capabilities of its personnel and ensures that its maintenance procedures remain aligned with the most advanced technologies in the industry. At the same time, CT Engineering Group continues to strengthen its position as a strategic partner in specialized training for critical power system infrastructure.

This is not the only contract awarded to CT by the Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant. Our engineers have also integrated the new grid connection bay for exporting energy from the hybrid photovoltaic plant into the substation control system, enabling the evacuation of renewable generation through the power transmission grid.
